Regulations Governing Food Safety
Food safety regulations vary depending on the country, state, or region in which a food manufacturer operates. In the United States, the primary law governing food safety is the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FDCA), which was enacted in 1938. The FDCA empowers the U.S. Department of Agricultures (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to ensure that meat, poultry, and egg products are safe for human consumption.
